How Long Does Alcohol Stay In Your System?

Alcohol burns off at the rate of .016 BAC per hour for any person regardless of weight, size or gender; however, it will take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours after drinking alcohol for it to get fully absorbed into our bloodstream depending on many factors. In general, however, it usually takes 30 minutes for the alcohol to get absorbed into the bloodstream so you will notice the effect of alcohol within that amount of time.

Also, the person's weight, size, and gender has an effect on reaching a certain BAC level. For example:

  • If you are a 120-lb. female, and you have two consecutive drinks, you can reach a .08 BAC level within 30 minutes.  But for the .08 BAC to be fully flushed from your system, you will need to wait five hours.
  • If you are a 160-lb. male, and you have three consecutive drinks, you can reach a .08 BAC level within 30 minutes.  But for the .08 BAC to be fully flushed from your system, you will need to wait five hours.
