Roadways also have lines that mark their edges and separate the roadway from the road’s shoulder:
- Right edge lines are solid white lines.
- Left edge lines are solid yellow lines.
- Edge lines help drivers stay on the road during low visibility conditions, such as fog, rain, and snow.
- Other lines may appear around the edges of medians or obstructions to guide drivers around them. Yellow diagonal lines near an obstruction mean you must pass it on the right. White lines around an obstruction means that traffic can pass on either side.
